Although there are hardly a few cases of pregnant females captured, it can be stated that this species prefers to breed in temperate waters, in spring or summer, and is ovoviviparous. The eggs, 4 to 10 or maybe even 14, remain in the uterus until they hatch: it is possible that in the white shark intrauterine cannibalism (the pups being weaker and eggs still open devoured by their stronger siblings ) in the same way it happens in other species lámnidos, but for now it is a fact that is fully tested. About three or four litters of 12 cm long and serrated teeth able to go outside during childbirth and immediately move away from their mother to avoid being devoured by it. Since then lead solitary lives, growing at a fast pace. They reach two meters in the first year of life, the males smaller than females before they become sexually mature when they reach the 3.8 m long (about four years), although according to Compagno ([1984] ) some individuals may grow unusually while still have just two feet. They are distinguished by extensions of fins serving pelvic organ couplers. Females may not be reproduced until reaching 4.5 and 5 m long and are believed to be fertile for a short period of time, which makes their reproduction rate is low.
Not much is known about intraspecific relationships that occur in this species, and with regard to mating is no exception. It may occur more often after several individuals share a great feast, such as a whale carcass. The half-life for these animals is not known exactly, but is likely to range between 15 and 30 years.
